National Wedding Show Olympia – Beat the Crowds

National Wedding Show

The National Wedding Show at London Olympia opens its doors today through until Sunday.  Brides from afar will be ascending on London Kensington for what is one of the busiest weekends on the wedding calendar.

If you are travelling by train or tube a good tip is to make your first stop on arrival a coffee break.  Because the London Kensington train station is immediately outside the Olympia entrance it is a popular means of transport to the event and as soon as any train pulls in there is a big wave of visitors to the show which can make it very crowded for a short while.  The crowds soon disperse buit while this is happening why not take the time to pick up a free programme, take a coffee break,  and study the enclosed floor plan.  It gives you the ideal opportunity to pin point any essential suppliers that you do not want to miss as you make your way around the show.

If you are travelling by car then the first obvious piece of advise is to try and avoid the London rush hour traffic.  Friday morning is worse because there are many business commuters into London.  There is enough time to see the whole show if you arrive mid morning so do not feel you have to be first at the door.  Also, if you plan on going on the Sunday dont leave it too late to leave because London gets very conjested after 5pm as people are returning from their weekends away or their country retreats etc.  If travelling from outside London you will be pleased to know that London Olympia is just outside the congestion charge zone.  Only just mind you, so watch you dont miss your turning as you drive past the Hammersmith flyover.  Parking is not extortionate and the car park right next to London Kensington station usually has spaces at the most busiest show times (and is a two minute walk from the show doors)

Check when the wedding shows are going to be.  This will be listed in the programme and on various information boards around the show.  They are usually repeated about 4 or 5 times throughout the day and if you are planning on spending the whole day at the show then it can pay to visit the later performances which are a lot quieter and can often mean that you get a seat rather than having to stand.  Perhaps more importantly it means that because everyone rushes to see the earlier perfomances it relieves aisle congestion elsewhere making for a more leisurly browse around the exhibitor stands.

If you are going to the Olympia National Wedding Show this weekend then the most important thing is to do is have a good time.  If you miss this show then check the National Wedding Show website for details of the next event.  The other biggy is the NEC which is on next month and you will find that many of the same exhibitors will be attending this event as well because they get a discount for attending more than one venue with the show organisers.

@ Sharon Rosen : They are usually held once a year in February. Take a look at the National Wedding Show website, the link is in the article above. They also hold a big event at Earls Court which a stones throw away from Olympia at a different time of the year. In addition there are usually two shows a year at the NEC in birmingham. The National Wedding Show events are usually well worth a visit if you can get along.
