Plant a grove of trees for your wedding with Trees for Life

Trees for Life Wedding GroveI have come across Trees for Life before and the excellent work they are doing in restoring Caledonian forest land in the highlands of Scotland.  They caught my eye again today after reading a BBC News article which reports that the organisation has acquired over 10,000 acres of land by purchasing Dundreggan Estate in Glen Moriston in a deal which has cost them £1.6m.  They plan to plant 500,000 native trees on the site.  It is hard to visualise regeneration work on this scale but it is possible to become involved in the work Trees for Life are doing with a replanting program for your wedding.

Billed as the “Wedding Gift of a Lifetime” Trees for Life have a wedding gift list scheme that lets your guests contribute money towards paying for your own grove of trees dedicated to your wedding.  The idea is very simple and works much the same way as any other online wedding list.  Trees for Life will set you up your own personalised web page that you can include on your wedding invitations or email to guests which shows them how they can donate cash for trees to be planted in your grove.  Setting up your wedding grove costs £50 which also covers the cost of the first 8 trees.  A link on your web page invites your guests to make a donation of their choice and every £5 donated adds another tree to your grove.  You can see some examples of other couples wedding grove web pages here.  Trees for Life is a registered UK charity so your gifts donations go even further if they are a UK taxpayer.

There are lots of charity based wedding gift list sites available and they are all commendable in their own way.  The thing that I like about this one is that your guests get the feeling that they are making a physical contribution.  If they donate £40 for your wedding they are effectively securing a small section of woodland the area of 8 trees.  That is something both you and they can be proud of.
